Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Charge Drive Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 15 121 499 465) ("Charge Drive", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and looks after your personal information. We follow the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). It applies to this website (chargedrive.au), our prepaid km Tesla rentals, and when you contact us by phone, SMS or email.

What we collect

When you apply or enquire through our website form:

• your name, mobile number, email address and suburb
• which plan and car you're interested in, how you'll use it (private, rideshare or both), roughly how many km a week, and when you'd like to start
• eligibility answers, such as whether you're 25 or older and have held an open licence for 12 months or more
• if you drive rideshare: whether you hold a Queensland Booked Hire Driver Authorisation, and your current rideshare rating
• anything else you choose to tell us in the message box, and your consent to be contacted

If you go on to rent a car: your driver licence details and photos, your signature on the rental agreement, payment records, rental dates and km, and details of any tolls, fines, damage or insurance claims.

Vehicle data: our Teslas record information like location, odometer, charging and driving events. We use it to track your km, look after the car, and for security and recovery.

When you use our website: technical information such as your device, browser, pages visited and how you got here (including campaign links). See Cookies and analytics below.

When you contact us: call, SMS and email records, including what we talked about.

We don't ask for sensitive information (like health or religion) and ask you not to send it. You can enquire without giving your name, but we can't assess an application or rent you a car anonymously.

How we collect it

Mostly straight from you: through our website form, by phone, SMS or email, and when you sign up for a rental. Sometimes we collect it from others, such as insurers, toll operators, road authorities or police (for example, a toll or fine notice for a car you were driving), or from Tesla's systems about the car you're using.

How we use it

• to assess your application and check you're eligible to rent
• to contact you by phone, SMS and email about your application, your rental and your prepaid km balance
• to run your rental: allocating a car, setting up Tesla app access, handovers, top-ups, receipts and record keeping
• for insurance: arranging cover and handling any claims
• to deal with tolls, fines and infringement notices, including nominating the driver responsible
• to protect our cars and our business, prevent fraud and meet our legal obligations
• to improve our website and services
• to send you news and offers, if you haven't opted out (see Marketing below)

Who we share it with

We only share what's needed, with:

• Insurers and their assessors, to arrange cover and handle claims
• Tesla, when we give you access to the car through the Tesla app (Tesla receives details such as your name and email to do this)
• Banks and payment providers, to process payments and refunds
• Our CRM and messaging platform, GoHighLevel (LeadConnector), which holds our contact records and sends our SMS and email
• Other service providers who help us run the business, such as booking, accounting, IT and website hosting providers
• Toll operators, road and transport authorities, councils and police, for tolls, fines, infringements and incidents
• our professional advisers, and anyone we're required or authorised to share with by law

We don't sell your personal information.

Overseas storage

Some of our service providers (including GoHighLevel/LeadConnector) store data on servers outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We choose reputable providers and take reasonable steps to make sure they protect your information in line with the APPs.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make it work, remember your choices and understand how people use it. We may use analytics and advertising tools such as Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel to measure visits and the success of our ads. These tools may collect information about your device and browsing, and the providers may process it overseas. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features (like the form remembering your plan) may not.

Marketing and opting out

We may send you news, tips and offers about Charge Drive by SMS or email. You can opt out at any time: reply STOP to an SMS, click unsubscribe in an email, or tell us by phone or email. We'll still send messages about an active application or rental, like receipts and km balance updates.

Keeping it safe

We store your information in secure, access-controlled systems and only let people who need it see it. We keep it while we need it for your application, rental and legal obligations (for example, tax records are generally kept for 7 years), then delete or de-identify it. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the OAIC as the law requires.

Access and correction

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Contact us using the details below. We'll respond within 30 days. Access is usually free. If we can't give you access or make a correction, we'll explain why.

Questions and complaints

If you have a question or think we've mishandled your information, contact us first and we'll try to sort it out. We aim to respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
