A Tesla for rideshare, paid by the kilometre

Rideshare weeks are never the same twice. Big weeks, slow weeks, school holidays, the week your kid brings home a bug. Prepaid km means you pay for the driving you actually do, not for a car sitting in your driveway.

Not driving rideshare? The same plans work for everyday driving: Tesla rental for everyday driving.

Why rideshare drivers like prepaid km

  • No weekly rent. Your km don't disappear when you take a day off.
  • Insurance included (at-fault excess applies)
  • Registered and maintained, tyres included
  • No bond. The starter pack is your commitment.
  • Your phone is the key. You get full Tesla app access.
  • Supercharger access, billed per use
  • Help with home charging, plus an EV run-through when you start
  • Support from people who drive Teslas for rideshare

Full Self-Driving (Supervised) on long shifts

FSD Option Now Available on Premium plans: add FSD (Supervised) as an extra subscription on top of your prepaid km, and it can take some of the load in heavy traffic. It doesn't change who's responsible. You're the driver. Stay attentive, keep your hands ready, and take over straight away if anything looks off. It doesn't make the car autonomous. Check your platform's current rules on driver-assistance features too. The standard plans are the cheaper option, without FSD (Supervised).

What you'll need

  • Age 25+ and an open licence held for at least 12 months
  • A QLD Booked Hire Driver Authorisation
  • A good rideshare rating (the Terms set the minimum)
  • The Tesla app on your smartphone

Platform eligibility

Riders tend to enjoy a Tesla, but the platforms decide which vehicle tiers you qualify for, and their rules change. Check your driver app for current eligibility before you count on a tier.

Work out your numbers

Our guide Rideshare EV earnings: the basics gives you a simple worksheet: fares in, then platform fees, km, charging, tolls and tax out. There are no made-up numbers in it, just a method you can use.

Model 3 or Model Y for rideshare?

  • Model 3: efficient, so the lowest cost per km on the smaller packs. Great for city shifts.
  • Model Y: more headroom and a much bigger boot, so it suits airport runs and groups.
